The US condemned the attack

       Clinton government has condenmed the attack against Akın Birdal with an official statement. The US officials has found a relation between the attack and the statements about Mr. Birdal in Semdin Sakık's questioning.
"The US strongly condemns the apparent assasination attempt against Akın Birdal one of the foremost advocates of human rights in Turkey" the US Foreign Office Spokesman James Rubin said.
He noted that Turkish Prime Minister Mesut Yılmaz also condemned the attack. Mr. Rubin urged the authorities in Turkey to move swiftly to bring the attackers to justice.
The spokesman praised Mr. Birdal as having "dedicated himself to improving Turkey's human rights situation." He said "The United States strongly supports the "vital role" of non-governmental organizations in democratic society and "calls upon Turkish authorities to create an atmosphere where these groups can florish."
International Amnesty Organization claimed that "a convenient atmosphere" is created for the attack. According to the decleration of the organization, "The Turkish authorities have worked to disgrace the Human Rights Society, and they have neither condemned nor inquired the former attacks against this organization."
