The leadership struggle between the closed down Welfare Party's leader Necmettin Erbakan and the Mayor of Istanbul Municipality Recep Tayyip Erdogan is growing. Erdogan started his tours to have the congress meet before the election and to have the general chairman changed.
It has been learned that Erdogan stated that the Virtue Party's(FP) administration should be changed and said, "Only my team can lead Virtue to success in elections. There is no turning back." Also reportedly Erdogan said the following about Erbakan, "We can make use of his experiences. He should stay as our wise man."
Erdogan, the leader candidate of the reformist group within FP came to Ankara yesterday. Erdogan who made such statements as "Erbakan can not ban me from certain things" has also staked all to Erbakan and the conservative wing within FP.
Erdogan does not seem to be listening to the conservative's warnings of waiting for his line, and goes on giving messages of leadership to the bases of the party. Erdogan who has the supports of Kurdish deputies and of the deputies from the Blacksea region, is also tourig in other regions to get the support of the bases there.
